The linear chart reveals the amount of materials shipped in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by various modes of transport namely as road, water, rail and pipeline. Units are caliberated in Million tonnes. To begin with, goods brought started from 70 in year 1974 through road and it swelled significantly after that, it reached just below 100 in 2002. This trend followed by water, it was below 40 and adrastic increase was observed throughout the year, it arrived at above 60. Further in the figure for pipeline, it was about 2 million only and followed same increasing trend as like to other commodities but it was much lower to approximately 20. Moving toward rail shipped, it was about 40 in initial year and went down moderately and it reached to 41 in 2002. In stark contrast, this figure followed surge pattern but the growth was noticed for only 1 million in all years. Overall, it is the evident from graph that upward trend was followed by all commodities shipped in given time period.
