Overall, there was a fall in the consumption of margarine and butter over the period given. Low fat and reduced spreads began to become popular in use from 1996 to 2007.
In 1981, despite peaking from 140 grams to 160, the consumption of butter decreased dramatically to 50 in 2007. With respect to margarine consumed, it stood at 90 grams in the first year, but this was followed by a slight flactuation before falling to a low of 40 grams in the last year.
In contrast, low fat and reduced spreads started to be used in 1996 with about 10 grams. Subsequently, it reached to the highest point above 80 grams 5 years later, after that the figure fell slightly to approximately 70 grams in 2007.
