The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007 pgG3
The line graph gives information about the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions measures in metric tonnes per person from 1967 to 2007 in Sweden, Portugal, Italy and the United Kingdom. Overall, when we study the line graph closely, it is immediately evident that CO2 emissions have drastically decreased in Sweden and the United Kingdom whereas, each person living in Portugal and Italy emits a greater amount of CO2 within the given time frame. In 1967, carbon dioxide emitted by each resident of the United Kingdom stood at approximately 11 metric tonnes. This number decreased slightly by 1977 and significantly fell to about 8. 5 by 2007. A similar trend is observed in Sweden where every individual living in the country in 1967 emitted around 8 metric tonnes of CO2, there was a sharp increase in 1977 to 10. 5 and a marked decline in the following 10 years. Furthermore, carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden continued to fall dramatically till it reached 5. 5 per person in 2007. In contrast, the opposite trend is noticeable in Italy and Portugal. Individuals residing in both countries emitted approximately 4. 2 and 1 metric tonnes of CO2 in 1967 respectively. Nevertheless, there was a steady rise in emissions per person among people living in these countries within the given period. CO2 emitted among Italians reached a peak of 7. 8 in 1997 and stayed the same till 2007. Similarly, the amount of CO2 emitted in Portugal plateaued in 1977 at 5. 8 for every person and remained stable until 2007.
