The average carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007 is illustrated through this graph.
Overall, we see the emissions per person of Italy and Portugal increasing during this period, while the United Kingdom and Sweden significantly decreased their emissions per person.
The graph demonstrates a gradual reduction of emissions per person for the United kingdom, going from 12 metric tonnes in 1967, to just under 9 in 2007. Meanwhile Sweden is less regular in its carbon emissions per person, initially increasing from around 9 metric tonnes per person to more than 10, before decreasing heavily until below 6 metric tonnes per person in 2007.
Despite Sweden and the United Kingdom reducing their carbon emissions per person during this period, Italy and Portugal have increased theirs, both climbing steadily from 1967 until 2007. Clearly the graph shows a dramatic growth for Portugal going from around 1 metric tonne per person of CO2 to 5 in 2007. Over this period Italy also increased its emissions going from 4 metric tonnes to near to 8, almost doubling.
