Overall, it is apparent that most of the figures witness a fluctuating trend and reach their highest peak at the end of the surveyed period, except for the figure for watching television. At the beginning of the 1980s, watching TV kept remaining its top position comparing to other activities in the US with a rising from 60% to reach its highest point at 70% in 2000s. However, in the year 2003, this position is taken by hiking with a dramatic surge, from 20% to 80% in the 2010s, folded 4 times with the statistic reported in1980s. With regards to others, it can be observed clearly that both reading and surfing the Internet have increasing pattern. While surfing the Internet rose gradually from 5% to 15% in 20 years, the statistic in reading activities had to go through fluctuation and dropped at it deep (20%) in the 2000s. However, in the final 10-year period, both activities kept increasing until got 50% and 55% respectively at the end of 2010s. By contrast, the number of people considered coming to the theater for entertaining essentially decreased by 30% from 50% to its deep in the 1990s. After that stage, this figure gradually uplifted to 45%, still being the least popular relaxing activity in the US.
