The provided two graphs illustrate applications from foreign and local students to Australian universities in the ten year period, from 2001 - 2010. In the graph, it can be seen that in 2001, 20000 foreign students applied to Australian universities. In contrast, commencing rates were slightly lower than the total number of applications at around 16500. Although at the end of the period, even though both sections experienced dramatic increases, the gap between the number of total and commencing enrolments is expanded significantly. And about the local students. commencing rates were always lower than the total number of enrolments and remained stable at around 200000 enrolments with some fluctuations. however, the total number were at 400000 in 2001 but it increased suddenly to 600000 enrolments in 2007 then it remained the same over the period.
