The diagram illustrates the way in which people’s location on Earth can be identified through the Global Positioning System. Overall, the Global Positioning System consists of three main segments, namely space, control and user, which contribute to data about the exact position of users. Additionally, each of the segments has 2-4 primary stages, including the use of satellites and antennas. With respect to the space segment, it includes 24 satellites which rotate the Earth every 12 hours at a high altitude of about 20, 000 km. Following this, the solar panels release the necessary amount of energy while the antenna system is responsible for transferring and receiving information. At this point, atomic clocks on board is to maintain the exact time. In the next segment, the function of radar at monitor stations is to find out any alterations in orbits and if there are, it notifies the control segment. As soon as the monitor station data is provided to the satellites by the segment again, the devices subsequently transmit the received data to people. As regards the user segment, the satellites transfer the coded information with the precise location and the time of transmission. After this, hand held receivers determines the distance to each device by collating the time message was sent and received. Once it has been measured, it is conceivable for users to definite the location of theirs on the planet.
