The diagram provided below graphically illustrates the process of making seawater drinkable. The process of water desalination consists of several main stages that can be described as follows: At the very first step, water is removed from the sea and transferred to a pretreatment filter. From this condition part of the water goes to the next main stage and the rest goes to the sea. After that, water experiences high pressure in order to retreat from salt and impurities via a membrane. Later, water molecules go through the pipe to the next post-treatment stage while the unnecessary substances are returned back to the sea simultaneously. As the diagram shows, in the post-treatment stage, the water retreats with 3 main substances namely: lime, chlorine, and fluoride. Once the process is over, seawater goes to the storage tank accordingly. In the final stage of the water desalination process, water is ready to be integrated in water supply system.
