The diagram below shows the production of steam using a gas cooled nuclear reactor
The diagram illustrates the process of producing steam employing a gas-cooled nuclear reactor. This system includes a reactor and heat exchanger. As regards the structure of the system, the pressure vessels, which wrap around all remaining parts of the system, is located inside the concrete radiation shielding. The uranium fuel elements are placed in the graphite moderators. These moderators are linked with the boron control rods and gone through charge tubes for loading fuel elements. As another main component of the system, the heat exchanger consists of a pipe that leads water into the chamber and the chamber itself where is exchanged between gas and water. In terms of the operation of the system, the steam is produced in a closed cycle. The cool gas dust is blown into the reactor by the gas blower. This gas is heated to a certain degree thanks to the nuclear reactor then it is to flow back into the heat exchanger via hot gas dust. In the chamber, the hot gas is traded off its heat with the cool gas to become cooler. At the same time, the cool water is converted into steam which is to power the turbo- alternator. The cool gas that enters the reactor to start the next cycle.
