The diagram demonstrates the stages of the life process of a species of big fish, which is called salmon. Overall, the process contains three main phases, beginning with the stage of fry and ending with the stage of adult salmon.
First of all, the salmon eggs are spawned and the evolution of the fry begins. This phase takes place in the upper river where the movement of the water is slow. Once the salmon eggs have been spawned, they are located in the reeds, and more specifically – hidden under small stones. Next, the fry evolve there for approximately five to six months, growing to between 3 and 8cm in body length. Following this, the fry develop into smolt, lengthening to 12-15cm.
After that, they emerge in the lower river where the water flows fast. Provided that, the smolt spend there roughly four years and later develop into adult salmon, but before this happens, they have to grow to between 70 and 76cm. In the final stage, the adult salmon enter the open sea where they live for about five years. Then the salmon goes back in the upper river to lay its eggs and the whole process begins again.
