The given process illustrates the making of paper as well as how it is recycled.
There are 5 steps involved in the creation of paper. Firstly, the radiata pine thinning are harvested from the plantations. They are then de-barked in a drum. The de-barked wood is then sent into a wood chipper which is followed by thermomechanical refining where it utilizes water. Lastly, the product is sent to a paper-making machine.
In order to recycle the paper back into paper, a six-step process is put in place. Starting with newspapers which are collected from kerbside collections. Once the collection is done, the newspapers are de-inked in a machine. De-inked papers are cleaned and go through a fine screening process. Thereafter the product is sent to the thermomechanical and mixed with recycled pulp. Ultimately, the end product is once again put in the paper-making machine for manufacturing recycled paper.
