The diagram below illustrates the process of generating electricity through a Hydroelectric power station. There are various stages are included like dam, generator, turbines and power stations. Overall, Hydroelectric power station performs in two shifts. In day time, power station can be used to generate an electricity, while reversible turbines is operated for pump of water during night shift. It is quite clear from the diagram, at the day time, water flows through high level reservoir from the river. Then, it passes by a dam, which is located between generator and river and it generates electricity through generator in power station. Therefore, power lines go directly to national grid. On the other hand, during at night shift, water flows from low level reservoir through reversible turbines. In addition, it pumps water into high level reservoir and flows back to river. The flow of water through pumping is closed during night time. It is completely a two way process which operates in day and night both time.
