The chart illustrates the numbers as well as the ratio of men versus women who held post-school credentials in Australia in 1999. Overall, it can be seen that men held more diplomas and degrees than women in 1999. In particular, most of the vocational diplomas, postgraduate diplomas and masters degrees were held by men while the significant majority of undergraduate diplomas was awarded to women. There was a significant difference in skilled vocational diplomas, with men holding nine times more than women (90% and 10%, respectively). Meanwhile, the former outnumbered the latter by about 40% in postgraduate diplomas as well as by around 20% in masters degrees. On the other hand, a significant proportion of exactly 70% women were awarded an undergraduate diploma, whereas men’s respective ratio was around 35%. To a lesser extent, the 50 percent of bachelor’s degrees belonging to females slightly surpassed the approximately 43% of such qualifications accredited to men.
