The chart illustrates how residents in 5 cities of Australia buy and drink coffee and tea in 4 weeks, by providing the percentages of the population for 3 different surveyed habits.
The most noteworthy fact about the habit of visiting a café for coffee or tea is that more than half of the survey takers living in each city stated they practiced this habit in the last 4 weeks. Three cities that had the highest percentages were Melbourne and Hobart (with around 63% for each) and Sydney whose slightly over 60% population confirmed their visits. Two other cities with lower percentages were Brisbane and Adelaide: the figures were 55% and 50%, respectively.
Another important finding is the figures for buying fresh coffee and buying instant coffee habits are quite similar in Sydney and Melbourne while other cities witnessed much wider gaps in percentage. Around 45% of Sydney residents bought fresh coffee and nearly the same number of people opted for the instant alternative in the past 4 weeks. Similarly, the difference between these two groups of buyers in Melbourne was also narrow (just 5 percentage points). On the other hand, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Hobart all reported that their instant coffee drinkers exceeded their fresh coffee drinking counterparts by approximately two folds.
