The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

The given bar chart illustrates the houses owned and rented accommodation from 1918 to 2011 in England and Wales.  At the first glance, it is clear that the number of owned households increased considerably over the years, meanwhile the percentage of rented households declined gradually. Rented and owned house percentage is exactly the same in 1917. Apparently, the number of owned households reached the peak in 1991, when almost 70% of households were owned. Whereas, in 1918, the percentage of owned households was just over 20%, which is the bottomest point. While in 1918, the percentage of rented accommodation rocketed the highest point. The rented houses in 2001 reached the bottom by nearly 30%, but it is a little bit more than the lowest point of owned accommodation which means the rented accommodation is a more popular choice for hosholders in England and Wales. In comparison between 1918 and 2001 there is a significant difference between the percentage of rented and owned accommodation. Furthermore, almost 40% less rented accommodation have been rented and almost 50% more owned accommodation has been bought.
