The chart illustrates the leisure hours spent by males and females during the calendar year 1998-99. People (both men and women) are categorized according to their employment status.
Overall, people are divided into five different employment statuses namely full-time employees, part-time employees, unemployed, retired, and housewives. Apart from the part-time employees and the housewives category, the leisure hours passed by men is higher than their counterparts. In the case of statuses that fall in the exception category, males did not find leisure time.
Comparing the leisure hours of men with women, while employed men spent more than 40 hours per week, their counterparts passed just below 40 hours as leisure time. Males spent less than 85 hours weekly whereas females passed just below 80 hours. Similarly, the retired men consumed less than 85 hours but with a slight change in the difference of leisure hours with women. In the case of employed people and housewives, women spent 40 hours and 50 hours respectively whereas men did not spend any time while being leisure.
