This bar chart shows the information about the families who owned and rented residences in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. Overall, households in owned accommodation indicated a surge while household in rented accommodation showed a downward trajectory throughout the given time-period. In 1918, households in rented accommodation marked its highest percentage which is around 78 percent. By 1939 it has decreased approximately by 12 percent and remain constant in 1953. From 1953 rented accommodation showed steep decreased up to 2001. Households in owned increased rapidly from around 23 percent to almost 70 percent in 2001 then decreased to around 65 percent in 2011. In 1971 both accommodation types reported an equal percentage, which is 50 in percentage. By 1981 households in owned accommodation outraced households in rented by 20 percent. At the end of the time period households in owned accommodation surpassed the rented accommodation by a huge margin.
