The line graph illustrates the percentages of electrical appliances in a given country from 1920 to 2019, in terms of washing machine, refrigerator and vaccum cleaner, and the results on housework undertaken per week. It is clear that all electrical appliances became more popular. It is also noticeable that the hours spent doing housework has also declined steadily and dramatically in the over one hundred years period.
In 1920, the percentage of household used washing machine was highest, at around 40%, followed by the figures for vaccum cleaner and refrigerators, at nearly 30% and 0% respectively. In 1980, there was a sharp dip in the proportion of washing machine used to about 60%. In the interm, the percentages of refrigerator continued to rising steady and vaccum cleaner rose by precisely 20% every 20 years until 1960, in the range of roughly 100% and 90%.
In 2000, the data for vaccum cleaner remained common, with the percentage for it being used standing at around 100%. In 2019, the figures for refrigerator and vaccum cleaner witnessed no changed, whilst the proprtion of washing machine saw a rapid increase, at just above 70%. The result for housework was that time spent washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning fell steadily from 50 hours a week in 1920 to 20 by 1960. After that, the decline was more gradual, reaching slightly above 10 hours by 2019.
