The graph illustrates the ability to read and write among males and females of rural and urban India for three alternate years 2013, 2015, and 2017. Units are measured in percentage.
Overall, it can be seen that there is an increase in literacy level among both the genders of rural and urban India. Moreover, the rise in reading and writing levels among the rural people is reasonably well than among the sphosticated Indians. Also, the proption of males having literacy is greater than the females who are literate.
In rural India, the percentage of males who are literate is greater than that of females. In 2013, over half of males were literate(57. 87%), while 30. 62% feamles were literate. It took five years for half of rural females to achieve literacy(57. 93).
In contrast, in urban India, the increase in male education level from 2013 to 2017(around 8%) is marginally less than that of the opposite gender(around 15%). Furthermore, it took 2 years for urban females to reach to quater of total, on the contary, males have always been above 80%.
