Looking at the details, manufacturing and services were two main sectors in the proportion of the UK workforce, accounting for around 33% in 1841. There was a dramatic rise in the services sector, increasing 48% to peak at 81% in 2011. Although manufacturing decreased significantly 25% in 2011 from 36% in 1841, it was still one of the highest sectors in the UK workforce. Agriculture/ fishing also declined sharply to hit the lowest point at 1% in 2011.
Compared with the big change of manufacturing, services and agriculture/ fishing, construction and energy/ water had a slight transition and they still kept the small percentage in the labor force from 1841 to 2011. Construction grew steadily by 3% in 2021 while energy/ water went down minimally by 2% to peak to the lowest point at 1% in 2011.
