The table illustrates the number of the UK students enrolled on different higher education courses from 2004 to 2006, measured in thousands.
In general, there was an upward trend in the student number in all majors, with the exception of Computer science. Biological science was the commonest subject, since 100, 000 students enrolled in 2004/05 and increased to reach 104, 600 in 2005/06. Engineering & technology and Computer science were the next most popular majors. The previous enrolment remained fairly stable, with the negligible change from 75, 700 to 75, 900. In contrast, the number of students, who enrolled in Computer science, experienced a 11% drop, from 73, 500 to 65, 500. There was a slight increase in the student number of Medical& dentistry, Physical sciences and Mathematical sciences, which fluctuated between 3% and 5%, from 38, 400 to 41, 000, 48, 000 to 49, 8000 and 20, 100 to 20, 800 in respectively. The least popular course was Agriculture and related subjects. In both education years, there was roughly 10, 000 students enrolled this major.
