Whereas, the figures for Space and Energy were slightly lower, at $7 billion and $5 billion respectively, which was still double that of General Science However, during the next 20 years, while the amount of expenditure on General science rose gradually to $5 billion, that of other, space and energy fluctuated around $5 billion and $8 billion.
In 2008, There was a significant growth in the expenditure on Health Research, reaching a peak of roughly $22 billion in 2004, before falling by $5 billion in 2008. At the same time, the US witnessed an increment in the spending on Space and energy, rising to nearly $10 billion and $7 billion respectively. By contrast, spending on Other research dropped steadily to $5 billion, which was the same as that of General Science.
