The line graph indicates the consumption of three spreads (margarine, low and reduced spreads and butter) over the period of 26years from 1981 to 2007. Units are measured in grams. Overall, it can be seen that the intake of margarine and butter decreased over a period of time, while low and reduced spreads rose sharply. At the start, butter was the most used spread which was replaced by margarine during the years 1991 to 2001. With regards to the amount of butter used, it began at around 140grams in the year 1981 and increased steadily to the peak of 160grams in 1986, which then decreased dramatically to 50grams in the last year (2007). Likewise, approximately 90grams of margarine was eaten in the first year which fluctuated slightly and dropped to 40 in 2007. On the other hand, the consumption of low fats and reduced spread only started in 1996 at 10grams. This figure reached a maximum of just over 80grams in 2001, then it fell slightly to 70grams in the final year.
