In addition, France welcomed the most UK visitors in 1999 while Turkey was the least popular of these five countries visited by UK residents. In detail, in 1979, there were merely over 10 million UK residents travelling abroad then this number gradually increased to 20 million people in 1985. By 1985, visits abroad by UK citizens sharply grew, peaking at in excess of 50 million visitors in 1999. In 1979, 10 million overseas residents arrived in the UK to travel. This number slowly rose to roughly 12 millions before remarkably increasing after 1985, reaching the highest point of nearly 30 million visitors in 1999.
