Explain Table regarding the MPs
Explain Table regarding the MPs oEonD
The table shows MPs with an extensive diversity of shape, color, and size were detected in most of the studied samples.
The most abundant of the detected MPs were fibrous. Approximately 54, 38 and 8% of the identified MPs (after micro-Raman analysis) in canned fish were fibers, fragments, and films, respectively. Previous studies also reported fibers as the most common MPs in fish samples (Barboza et al. , 2020; Bessa et al. , 2018; Guven et al. , 2017; Koongolla et al. , 2020; Lusher et al. , 2013; Neves et al. , 2015). It should be considered that fishing nets and ropes are still used as the main tools in the fishery (Barboza et al. , 2020; Neves et al. , 2015; Welden and Cowie, 2017) and their breakdown can make microfibers (Welden and Cowie, 2017). Moreover, synthetic microfibers are very common in clothes, and atmospheric fiber shedding has been detected almost everywhere (Bessa et al. , 2018; Napper and Thompson, 2016).
Hence, finding of a large number of fibers in the gills, gastrointestinal tracts, and muscle of fish is not surprising.
