The map illustrates both plans of Walton Museum in 2008 and in 20012. It is vivid that radical changes took place over a period.
In 2008, the original Walton museum was considerably small and didn't have many facilities. The special exhibition room, shops and cloakrooms were located on the first floor. Towards the second floor, there was an entrance, a reception area and a reading room. Stairs were placed in between the shop and the cloakroom.
Secondly, by the year 2012, the special exhibition room was redesigned, and two more floors were built one being the entrance hall and the other being terraced.
Furthermore, the reception area on the northwest and cloakroom on the southeast were combined on the second floor. The restaurant was sited above the reception and cloakroom.
In addition to this, stairs were replaced by lifts were added to each floor. Lastly, the cloakroom and reading room was reconstructed into a four-floor building. The children's play area was located on the first floor whereas the exhibition room on the top floor. A self-service café and reading room were placed in between the lower level and the upper level.
Overall, except for the special exhibition room and the shop, the rest of the Walton Museum had a major transformation.
