There is no doubt that the first year of college is the hardest among all years from many aspects. Freshmen tend to suffer more during the year because of bunch of reasons. They just came freshly from high schools that lacks to habilitation for this stage of their lives, which can cause them a trauma at the beginning of this thousand-mile journey. In this essay, I’ll be discussing the challenges freshmen face at college.
First of all, having to study all subjects in English. In our high schools, all of subjects are taught in Arabic, so when students arrive to higher education, they are shocked with the huge amount of English they need to digest. This could probably cause them to be on the back of the train. To illustrate, a study that was done recently showed that kids who studied in international schools are more likely to achieve higher scores regrdless of the faculty. That was evident comparing to their peers in public schools who absolutely don’t receive English in the same quality.
Also, having to absorb the fact that they are not young anymore. At this stage, everything that is related to your academic path is your own responsibility. This fact may be a little harsh for students who were used to be driven by others to achieve high grades. There are a lot of horizons to pursue during college. You will have to be your own tutor and figure out the right ways for you to get great scores. There are lots of things that are burden on a freshmen as they finally stepped into college. They have to understand their weaknesses, analyze the characteristics of their teachers, be responsible for attending their classes on time and the list continues to on.
To sum up, obstacles are normal for freshmen. Every level of our lives bring its difficulties with it, but being smart in dealing with these difficulties will turn the table for your own favor. Use the obstacles you face as a guideline for you to determine your weaknesses and finally turn them into strengths. College’s administration must insure steps are taken to reduce this phenomenon deteriorating future.
