Dear Sam, It was so good to see your message on my Facebook. Hope you're doing well? Been a while since we last spoke and I was delighted to know that you are taking an interest in my country’s affairs. Well one such news that has recently created a lot of waves, is the law that was passed by the Government of India regarding the LGBTQ community. In fact, it was only yesterday that the law came into effect, allowing same sex marriages, which were considered illegal earlier. The subject has always been a controversial one and many social organizations were fighting for the rights of this community. They had taken to the streets to show their solidarity, thereby demanding equal rights for homosexual couples. This had generated a lot of interest not just internally, but internationally as well. People at large were extremely curious to see how the government reacts to the demands of the parties in question. Finally, after many months of struggle, the government passed this law, much to the delight of everyone. Personally, this law has resonated with me strongly. I have many friends who belong to this community, always wanting to come out but could never find the courage to do so, as it was considered a social taboo. Now, with the passing of this law, they can feel they are equals and do not have to hide anymore.
