Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a graduate of Boğaziçi University Foreign Language Education Department which is considered one of the best state universities in Turkey. I am currently teaching English in Bilim Yaşam Schools, İstanbul. My purpose in writing this motivation letter is to express my interest in the Early Language Education in Intercultural Communications Master’s Degree Program in the University of Eastern Finland.
The day I started teaching in the British Culture institution in Nişantaşı as a university student, I found that teaching was the profession I wanted to master for the rest of my career. I have been teaching for three years since, including part-time experience, volunteering work in non-profit organizations, volunteering in state schools and full-time teaching positions since August 2020. Besides my academic interest in the area of language education, I find teaching to be a raison d’être for myself. In accordance with Mark Twain’s quote “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life. ”, I see teaching as a passion project. Further in my career, I aim to contribute to education as a skillful foreign language teacher and to conduct some form of research into technology enhanced language education. For the moment, I am looking forward to attaining competence as a teacher and also to satisfying my academic curiosities in a respectable and fruitful institution. This is why I believe the UEF to be a suitable hub for my studies.
My interest in the UEF stems from three main factors: the opportunity to observe and participate in the Finnish education system, the opportunity to grow as a researcher-teacher and the chance to cooperate with the developing ICT initiative in Finland to enhance language education.
Firstly, the world-famous Finnish education system is one of the main attractions of the program. I would be keen to experience the system that is credited with constructing Finland into one of the most prosperous countries in the world. Applying the values as well as the driving forces associated with the Finnish education system into my teaching philosophy is one of my goals in considering UEF. As described on the website, more chances to gain practical experience is offered in comparison with other alternatives, and I believe that this would improve my conduct as an educator greatly.
In addition, I am looking forward to conducting my own initiative in educational research. The Finnish outlook on teachers is known to be one that values self-growth and life-long learning, which I also believe all teachers must participate in.
Last but not least, I have read on the school website that teaching and learning in digitalized environments was one of the headlines for research in the department. This has been a source of excitement for me, as my main academic interest during my time in Boğaziçi University has been technology enhanced language education. I believe studying in the UEF will provide me with the opportunity to delve into this field of research, as collaborating with the strong ICT sector in Finland would be a natural outcome of any such work. In combining technology enhancement with my other academic interests, namely bilingualism and the methodologies of storytelling and gamification in language education, I hope to contribute to the academic research value of the institution.
In regard of the possibilities presented by the UEF, I consider it to be the best option for my higher education. I anticipate that the growth it will offer for my expertise in language education will be more than valuable. I also believe that my abilities and personal drive for research and education will contribute to both the institution and the community. Thank you for considering my application and please contact me at canbuldu98@gmail. com for any questions.
