Dear Rose, It is wonderful to hear that you are moving to Sydney for a summer exchange semester and would like to improve your English to be able to communicate better during your time in Australia. I’m really happy that you wrote to me for advice. I think that it is a fantastic idea for you to want to develop stronger communication skills and there are various ways for you to achieve your goal of speaking the language better. There are numerous excellent internet resources that provide free English language lessons to aspiring students, which can be beneficial to you in not only improving your grammar but also your vocabulary. Language applications and other software programs, such as Grammarly, offer complimentary grammar checking to help you practice your English online. There are also many mobile applications that can be downloaded on your phone and which provide feedback, which you can use to record yourself while practicing your English-speaking skills. On the other hand, the internet is also full of foreigners, who themselves do not have a sound grasp of the language, trying to give tips to other students. You might want to stay away from those. To work on your listening and speaking skills, I suggest watching Hollywood movies and listening to English music. I believe that the most fun and productive way to learn a new language is through the entertainment media. That said, let me know if you feel that you would like a professional tutor to give you individual classes. I will give you the contact information of a wonderful teacher I personally know. Best wishes, Rosie
