I want to express my enthusiasm for the application for MSc studentship at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Engineering Materials Science. I have passed my BSc in Mechanical engineering from Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST). My interest grew in this topic when I was a student of Mechanical engineering at BAUST. During my time as a student of Mechanical Engineering, the interest was developed by learning core engineering subjects like Mechanics of Materials and Metallurgy and also working with my B. Sc. dissertation called Fabrication and characterization of Wood apple and Coconut shell powder reinforced epoxy composites. Over time that interest grew into passion, and I wanted to advance my knowledge into the subject. So, when I came across M. S program in Engineering Materials Science in KTH Royal Institute of Technology I was immediately intrigued and set a goal to try and enroll in that program. Apart from my academic study internationally renowned education system, multicultural environment, breakthroughs in sustainability also attracted me to pursue higher education in Sweden.
My undergraduate thesis focused primarily on powder-based composite materials using wasted wood apple and Coconut shells. Me and my teammates did research where we mostly concentrated on the fabrication of a new kind of composite and developing the mechanical properties based on a designed prototype model of several geometries. I found that the ratio of high coconut shell powder shows higher mechanical properties. Lower mechanical properties were found when wood apple shell powder was incorporated with coconut shell powder. Physical properties test showed that with the increased ratio of wood apple shell powder minimum swelling thickness was obtained with a high water absorption rate.
While browsing through the University website, I have grown to admire the wide range of courses it offers to make one specialist in this field. To increase my knowledge in concepts of material science, I decided to apply for the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. I believe that with the consultation and cooperation from the prominent faculty members I will be able to facilitate my development as an individual researcher in this field. My goal is to pursue Ph. D. after completing my master’s degree and join my undergrad university as a professor. I believe that with the cooperation of this program I will be able to establish an advanced materials laboratory where students will receive practical training in material processing, design and sustainability, and will contribute to our nation by providing various solutions related to sustainable material management.
A decent research profession can only be built based on a solid education. I have completed my undergraduate degree at one of the best university in Bangladesh; I would equally cherish the opportunity to pursue my master’s degree at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. I am fully conscious of the implications and adequately prepared with technical qualifications and an appropriate mindset for the master's level research work. I look forward to a mutually beneficial and long relationship with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Sweden
