Dear host family,
First of all, I want you to know how excited I am to be writing this letter. Thank you for taking the time to read it, I hope it will be as pleasant as it is for me to write it. I’d like to start by telling you some due information about myself: my name is Linda, I’m Italian and I’m seventeen. Although, when we will meet each other, I’ll already be eighteen, since my birthday is on march 28th. I personally see it as a very special event, that’s why I’m planning to celebrate by doing what I love the most: travelling. In fact, I’m going to spend three days in Munich with my friends. My parents and I chose this city because I can speak German since I was born, thanks to my mum. She is an interpreter and she studied in Germany, while she was living by a family that I can also call mine. I call her ex-host parents grandpa and grand mum and we visit them each year for a month during summer. Long story short, my mum loves German so much that she decided to talk to me and my siblings in German, so that we would grow bilingual and even have an actual German family. I’m convinced that having to develop two languages simultaneously as a child helped me a lot in terms of learning other new languages. I find it in fact quite easy to study foreign languages, and my favorite is without any doubt English. I attend a linguistic high school where I study English, German and French as foreign languages. I have a passion for literature, psychology and philosophy as well. My father actually studied philosophy at university, so maybe I inherited it from him. He is now a private banker and contrary to what may seem, his degree really helps him communicate and understand his clients.
In my spare time I love reading and listening to music. I also played the violin for almost 8 years, now I play it only once in a while. I also enjoy watching tv series (in the original language, of course! ) such as “The queen’s gambit”, “friends” or “suits”, which I’m currently watching. This one in particular fascinated me and who knows, maybe I’ll become a lawyer myself! Another great passion of mine since I was little is writing, that’s why I’m also considering pursuing a career as a journalist. One thing I am sure about is that I want to study in an English university.
