Without financial support, advancements in one’s studies tend to be unattainable. Living costs and tuition fees are quite expensive. Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme assures me of the financial support I need to further my studies and to grow professionally in a highly respected international university in Hungary. Hungary has universities that are internationally recognised for their high quality of education. The universities are multicultural, with diverse nationalities. The multicultural environment makes Hungary a culturally sensitive country, as an international student, I will get to interact with different cultures. This is important for my personal growth and cultural appreciation and awareness of others. Hungary provides a safe and friendly living environment for students, which is essential for one’s mental and physical health. Living costs are affordable and the public transport sector is well developed and convenient. My expectations from my studies in Hungary are quite high. Professional exposure from the internship opportunities provided by the university will be of great benefit. I expect to hone my skills during the internship period and development professional conduct. The internship opportunity will give me new skills and knowledge. Acquiring practical skills and knowledge from lab work to field work. Gain animal research skills and be able to work with different academic research software. Create new professional networks during my studies and internship. During my undergraduate studies, I worked at the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC). The attachment opportunity provided me with new skills such as artificial insemination. Trained to collect bull semen using artificial vaginas and perform semen quality assessments in the laboratory. Learnt more about animal health and feeding, attended to minor clinical cases. The centre also had a calf rearing section where I learnt more about calf rearing and health. Arava International Center For Agricultural Training in Israel, introduced me to new animal rearing skills, research methodology and communication skills through their Advanced Diploma in Agriculture Studies programme. I learnt more about Agriculture in general, apiculture and aquaculture. The academic trips to various apiculture and aquaculture farms were very useful and educational. I have a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science Major) degree from the University of Nairobi. I acquired the necessary skills and knowledge required from animal production, nutrition and animal health. In recent previous months, animal feed companies have faced inadequate feed resources in Kenya. There is extinction of animal breeds and certain genetic traits that are beneficial to the ecosystem and economy. Master of Science in Animal Husbandry Engineering from the University of Debrecen is needed at both local and global levels. To provide solutions to genetic conservation and breeding, nutrition and health. I plan to engage in animal research work in major government research institutes back in Kenya. I plan to disseminate the skills and knowledge that I have gained through extension activities. Doing a lot of research before joining the university, will be of great benefit to prepare me for living in Hungary.
