a motivation letter for the DAAD scholarship 9wG1W
Dear Selection Committee, Let me start with some information about my educational background and work experience. In 2018, I graduated with honours from Ilia State University (ISU) - one of the leading educational and research institutions in the Caucasus region - where I majored in Management and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA). At the time, apart from the State Educational Grant, I was a regular recipient of the Presidential Scholarships for successful students and managed to complete a sales and trading (S&T) internship at TeleTrade Georgia. Moreover, my efforts paid off, and within the framework of Erasmus+, I was able to secure an exchange semester at an Austrian university – the Faculty of International Business Relations. After completion of the BBA course, I pursued an internship within the hospitality industry in Germany and worked as a front office intern at the KlosterHotel Ludwig der Bayer. Being involved in an important project, such as the Bavarian State Exhibition 2018 - The Myth of Bavaria, I got a chance to get an insight into the operations of a German company and develop my professional skills in a multicultural environment. As for now, I am a final-year student of a Double-Degree Master Program - with the language of instruction being English. Upon successful completion, I will be awarded the diploma and qualifications from both universities - the Master of Business Administration (Ilia State University) and Master of Arts in International Business (University of Applied Sciences Burgenland). Besides, I am working on a draft version of my master’s thesis: “Green marketing and electronic commerce practices for small to medium enterprises in the Austrian and Georgian wine industries”. As for the short and medium-term goals, I would like to develop a firm foundation in the field of Marketing research and pursue an academic career in Germany - through a structured doctoral program. In particular, I discovered that I have a keen interest in the application of eye-tracking technology in consumer behaviour analysis. In 2020, during my stay in Eisenstadt, I was introduced to the eye-tracking - mobile Eye Tracking Glasses (ETG) and remote eye tracking systems (RED) by SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) - for marketing, user experience and consumer research. I realized that I could not pass on the chance of working with cutting edge technology under the supervision of Prof. (FH) Mag. (FH), MSc Claudia Kummer. Hence, as a group project, we were granted the highest mark for producing a final paper on the following topic: “Influence of a bottle and label design on the consumers' buying decision – Eye-tracking research on beer". All things considered, I am eager to try and take advantage of the opportunity provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). I know there are plenty of deserving applicants, but - as a disadvantaged student, the financial aid from your scholarship is the only option available for me to continue down this path. I firmly believe this program could be a unique opportunity to study at a prestigious university and a solid step towards my future career as an academician or businessperson - who understands and appreciates the value of Georgia-German relations. Since, the higher education in Germany has an excellent reputation worldwide, as an innovation-driven and closely interlinked with labour market needs - enabling me to work with state-of-the-art technology and complete an internship that is integrated into the study program. Also, I consider myself to be an entrepreneurial-minded individual and as a plan B, it could be seen as an investment in a future management professional or decision-maker and partner for Germany. Last but not least, what I can contribute to the program - in addition to my great enthusiasm for the field - is a thorough knowledge in a variety of business concentrations, along with an international perspective from prior studies and work experience. After considerable research, I have found degree programs that are internationally oriented and foster a culture of innovation - enabling me to conduct applied research in this field of study. Firstly, the "International Marketing Management" (Berlin School of Economics and Law) program offers an international and applied approach to the subject. Thus, the right mix of theory and practice provided by this degree means that I will benefit from the expertise of top-quality academia and leading real-world companies. Namely, I have found the following courses interesting: Current Issues in Marketing, Consumer and Corporate Buying Behaviour, International Marketing and Sales Management. Secondly, the "International Marketing and Sales" (Münster University of Applied Sciences) program combines a well-founded theoretical education and a distinctive practice-oriented experience with case studies, practical projects and workshops. Especially, I am looking forward to the courses such as Marketing Specialisation and Key Competencies, International Sales, Marketing Conception and Data Mining. Thirdly, the "International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship" (Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg) program with the specialisation in the field of Marketing - focuses on the influence of the social and physical environment of consumers and their behaviour. Particularly, the most intriguing courses for me are the Recent Issues in Marketing Research, Scientific Project in E-Business, and Consumer Research. Overall, I expect the above-mentioned courses to provide me with a firm grasp of the various skills and aspects that are essential to marketing management - such as planning, integration and the consideration of multiple factors into making sound decisions. In conclusion, what truly sets me apart from other candidates is not just my academic achievements or extracurricular activities but the international work experience and personality traits. One of my ambitions is to build a bridge between the European and Georgian academic or business circles, and if given the opportunity, I believe that this scholarship will strongly enrich my future research, expand my social circle, and open up new horizons for my professional life. At a personal level, I am a highly driven individual who wishes to rise to the challenge - but at the same time, I try to be an industrious student with a pleasant personality. The special skills that I would like to emphasize are a strong sense of responsibility, purpose and a high degree of openness to changes or adaptability. However, first and foremost, I have good interpersonal skills as I have always managed to build positive relationships with my colleagues - by demonstrating readiness for help and support. All in all, I think that I can make a strong case for myself since my application is fully integrated into my career and academic plan. I am confident that the years of studying at highly recognized academic institutions gave me a solid knowledge of the fundamental business concepts, which I can build upon in the future. For instance, I believe that my educational background, work experience and my overall passion for this program makes me a suitable candidate. Furthermore, my prior education and work experience from German-speaking countries, where I acquired a basic level of the German language, will enable me to quickly adjust to a foreign country and bilingual university. Lastly, I am eager to improve my spoken and written German as much as possible since it will be vital for my future career and to the best of my knowledge, on the website of DAAD Georgia, it is stated that they even offer a German language course. I appreciate you considering my application, and it would be an honour to become a part of the DAAD alumni network. I understand that you attract the best candidates in the field, and I am confident that I would flourish in that environment. If you happen to have any questions regarding the application, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours faithfully, Lasha Katsanashvili
