Language barrier might be the most noticeable shock that most transferred students have to endure. It is the fact that language teaching in grammar books is completely different from usual conversations in real life that catches many people off guard. From the variety of accents, the personal pace of talking, to the regional tones of voice and even the common slangs, those things cannot just be picked up in a matter of days, but indeed acquired after a long journey. Unless those students have the opportunity to invest in learning a foreign language earlier on, chances are it will take a good while for them to actually be able to integrate themselves in the current community. Another possible result is that the classroom apprehension ability of some of those foreign students may be affected in the process. Consequently, they cannot help but feeling out of place, which exacerbates their homesickness and gradually withers all the hope for achievements away.
