A desire to extend my knowledge and enthusiasm to design buildings with sustainable approaches motivated me to pursue MSc in energy and sustainable building design. I believe that my educational background instilled in me the qualities I required to meet the needs of this demanding course. Also, the profession I bring along with me, a strong grasp on designs of domestic and commercial buildings is a unique but relevant work experience. My biggest decision that set the path for my career was choosing Civil Engineering as my field of study. Since my childhood, I have been fond of buildings and structures. They always fascinated me, and I was keen to know how they were made. That anxiety towards buildings grew as I grew older, so I decided to join a course that answers the questions. After my high school studies, I joined for a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Sreepathy Institute of Management and Technology, Vavanoor, affiliated with the University of Calicut, Kerala, India.  There I was exposed to core module subjects such as Building Technology, Environmental Studies,  Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering And Management,  Structural Analysis,  Structural Design,  Ground Improvement Techniques,  Soil Exploration Testing And Evaluation,  Surveying And Geotechnical Engineering. The course curriculum emphasized more practical sessions to gain in-depth knowledge in Civil Engineering where I did Surveying Lab, Materials Testing Lab. Also, I learned advanced computer-aided drawing applications where I learned the basics of different software for drafting and designing various structures. During my studies, I researched the possibilities of getting a job in the construction industry which copes with computer applications in their work.  So, after my graduation, I joined CADD Centre, Thrissur to learn Autodesk certified courses like Auto CAD, Revit,  Primavera, 3Ds Max, STAAD Pro and completed them successfully. After studying this software, I felt more confident to join as an Interior Designer at Shivagiri Builders And Developers,  a contracting firm that takes contracts from private and public works departments. There I started my employment and I was deeply inspired and supported by senior engineers to make designs on building with my ideas and on a research basis. I have always tried to design buildings that utilised natural lighting and ventilation as I got a lot of appreciation from senior engineers. It was while I was working in Shivagiri for three years that my husband received an offer letter to study at a leading university in the UK. At that point, I decided to go with him. When I reached the UK, its buildings, and infrastructure amazed me. day by day I was curious to know how these are maintained. I emphasised exploring the UK by visiting many places and cities as I chose part-time jobs rather than a job from my field of study. Besides, the job at Orridge Stocktaking Company not only gave me more opportunities to visit many places and shops but also it was a nice experience to work with a team as a Stock Taker. In all these places there had something to attract me and always think that how this is so beautifully designed and sustained. I have also worked with Greggs Manufacturing Company on the Assembly Line at Benton, where I was stunned with sustainable waste management and energy-saving techniques. These all aspects make me eager to know more about the design of sustainable buildings as well as how renewable energy can be harnessed in buildings. After coming back from the UK, even while working as a Design Engineer at Fin Albina Projects in India, I never gave up the desire to know more about designing that includes sustainable practices. And my interest in this topic is reflected in my projects as well. When my Project Head saw my designs and asked and realized my intentions, he encouraged me to take a course in the relevant area. Upon his advice, I decided to pursue a masters in sustainable practices. When I decided to study, I did not consider any country other than the UK, as I already knew the academic and teaching excellence based on the discussions that I had with some of my friends, who had studied in the UK. Also, based on a lot of research, I realized that studying in the UK would give me enhanced career potential. while I was searching for universities that provide studies on sustainable approaches to building design, I came across the course Msc In Energy And Sustainable Building Design at De Montfort University(DMU).  From the university website, I came to know that the university provides one of the best master’s programs in the UK. this masters programme in DMU covers modules such as Sustainable Development, Sustainable Building, Sustainable Energy, Building Physics, Building Performance Modelling, Energy Analysis Techniques, Study Skills And Research Methods And Dissertation. furthermore, the optional one-year placement offered along with the course will certainly help me to improve my practical experience and international exposure which will enhance my employability. the course is accredited by both the Chartered Institution Of Building Service Engineers(CIBSE) and the Energy Institute.  From the college website, I understand that I will be learning my modules through a combination of lectures, seminars and group discussions. I also understand I will be assessed through 2 coursework as smaller and major coursework. I also understand that students have to complete either an individual dissertation or a team-based design project. And, all students get to attend the annual MSc conference, where final year students present. My goal is to enhance my technical skills in sustainable building design and further increase my employability in the construction industry. I can see a good prospective job opportunity in this field. After getting the master’s degree and industrial training combined with international exposure will surely make me a good professional. After gaining enough academic and practical training tailored to international exposure, I would like to start a Civil Engineering Consultancy firm in Kochi, Kerala. I am confident that my academic and practical knowledge combined with my eagerness to do research exhibit the perseverance and zeal required to pursue a master’s at DMU. I am financially supported by myself and by my parents and my husband, who have sufficient income to pay back my expenses and were happy with my decision to pursue my masters in the UK. I hereby request you to kindly grant me the necessary Student Visa and oblige.
