The reading and the lecture is concern about the possibilities of four-day workweek but both contrast each other. 2bPdJ
The reading and the lecture is concern about the possibilities of four-day workweek but both contrast each other. The reading thinks that four-day work will help the employee, the company, and the economy but the lecturer of the lecture does not think this way. First of all, the reading states that the shorten workweek will beneficial for the companies and economy. It will save money and the employee will feel rested and will fewer costly errors as it will prevent overwork. But the lecture argues that in this way, the cost of spending will increase as the company has to spend more on training, health care, and supply. Besides, the company will need more working space and computers, hence, decrease profits. Secondly, the reading states that four-day workweek will decrease the unemployment rate and create more job for others. But, the professor states that this unemployment problem will not adjust in this way as the expanse of hiring will increase. The professor also proposed an alternative solution for this problem like overtime to make up the compensation. Finally, the author also states that it will increase the quality of life of an individual employee as they will able to spend more time with their family and personal matters. whereas the lecturer agrees with the reading about the personal time but he also thinks that it would not help to increase the quality of life, will be late in the workplace and these employees are more likely to lay off in the economic downward. In Conclusion, although the reading and the lecture both talk about the four-day of the workweek, however, the three main points made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
