Social media has developed rapidly from the past to become one of the most powerful tools for people especially teenagers to use in constructing a better world for their generation. It’s been almost thirty years since the first social media site was created in late 1990s, and it has developed rapidly to become more powerful. At first, social media was designed to be a platform to just upload profile and make friends. Modern social media has changed from the past, the spreading of social media is increasing drastically. From the article “Number of Global Social Network Users 2017-2025” it states, “more than 45% of the world population uses social media, and on average, people spend 144 minutes on using social media including chatting, which has increased more than 30 minutes since 2015. ” (J. Clement) It is so influential to the world as it is able to generate new things or change how people live in the society. Since the social media is improved all the time, it requires a lot of skills to use. Teenagers greatly have the skills, consequently, they can use the social media in the most effective ways. Social Media is beneficial for teenagers since it helps to develop both academic and art skills, promotes emotional health, and encourages teens to establish projects to conveniently earn money. The way social media works in the present time definitely help to promote certain academic skills for teenager. Education at school is strongly benefit by social media. The article “15+ Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media on Youth in Society” claims that “Social media also helps a lot in education since it gives the more convenient ways to communicate between teachers, students and friends leads to better learning opportunities. ” (Muhammad Adil) Students have better grade from communicating with teachers more. They talk about the problems about works through social media. In terms of academic skills outside school, social media plays an important role as it is a platform that stores vast quantities of information to use in educational ways, and it is one of the easiest way youth can have their intellectual skills advanced, perhaps faster than learning in schools. Teenagers can use social media to discover the knowledge they want to know. Youth can use YouTube, which has a wide range of helpful videos, to study, for example, one can practice speaking English by following the video. Similarly, art skills such as musical or painting skills are progressed easily through a platform like YouTube and Facebook. There are many pages and channels that teach these skills, and teenagers can easily access and study for free. Social media is essential for practical skills development in teens as it lets more people to participate. Social media helps to reduce feelings of isolation in teenagers as it effectively connects many societies together. A study published in 2015 suggested that “Although teens in the present time have fewer friends than teens in the past, they feel less lonely since social media strengthen their relationships. ” (D. Matthew T. Clark) When teens express how they feel, and someone listens to what they say, that make teens feel involved, and less isolated. From the article “Surprising Ways Your Teen Benefits from Social Media” it says, “When they do not have many opportunities to express themselves or they do not know people with the same passions or interests, they begin to wonder if there is something wrong with them. ” (Sherri Gordon) Moreover, it could also make teens interact with others better as they communicate with others through social media everyday leads to a solid communication strategy, higher self-esteem, and better relationships with others. Consequently, teens have an excellent emotional health. Lastly, since sometimes teenagers don’t have works, social media in the modern time is the best thing that helps teens to earn money fast and effective. There are many ways teens can use social media to make money. One can use his or her hobbies, for example, making a song, post it on YouTube, and when there are a lot of people listen to the song, one will earn money. One could collaborate with others that have the same interests through fast communication of social media to generate things, then upload them on social media to earn money. The benefit of using social media as a medium is that social media is not expensive, and even free in most of the sites, which is essential in advertising the products, and services to the people. In addition, information on social media spreads quickly due to the extensive amounts of social media users, and the information can easily be shared from one to another, which the rate grows exponentially. Social media is a medium that has appeared for almost thirty years, and have been developed continually to be more influential to the world. It gives different amounts of advantages to all types of people. The people whom social media impacted the most are teenagers. In teenagers, social media is necessary in everyday life since it is beneficial in several ways. It enhances different skills progression including additional knowledge that is not in the school, simply promotes mental and emotional health, and make money from one’s interests during the free time. Perhaps, in the future social media could be even more powerful to help in teenagers’ development, so that the future world along with the help of social media can brings the world forward to the ways we have never imagined of.
