After the death of Emperor Nero in 68, the new monarchs of Rome, under the Flavian dynasty, built the mighty Colosseum. It is therefore called the Flavian Amphitheater. Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasian who chose the area between the Palatine, Esquiline and Celio hills to build it. Construction of the Colosseum began in 72 AD, during the reign of Emperor Flavius Vespasian (69-79). Emperor Vespasian died in 79 AD. and he never saw its completion. The building was completed by Titus (79-81), son and successor of Vespasian, who added the third and fourth order of seats, inaugurating it, in 80 AD. In any way, however, Domitian, the third emperor of the Flavian dynasty, completed the complex.
