The statement talks about the ever growing popularity of online shopping. Since the internet has become an integral part of our daily lives, it has also become the medium by which a lot of people are choosing to purchase their everyday necessities like groceries and even luxury items such as air tickets. Given, most people's current busy lifestyles, I would like to argue that the advantages of online shopping far outweigh the disadvantages of the same.
We are currently residing in an ever changing fast paced world where every second counts. Hence, any and all avenues to save time and make our lives a little less complicated, helps to increase our standard of living. I believe that the internet and online shopping offers exactly that solution. When a person is running on a packed schedule with back to back meetings along with various other personal and family commitments, online shopping for daily needs like groceries can be a life saver. It saves one's time in having to drive or take a public transport to a shopping center and then choosing the items needed for oneself. The same is true for when one is trying to plan a trip. When one can pick and choose itineries that best suits them just by swiping on one's phone the entire process of going to a travel agent and booking tickets in person seems that much more hasslesome. I also think that online shopping not only saves time but can also help to save money. There is the added costs on fuel and parking that are accrued in travelling to and from the shopping centres. I also think that when one goes to shop at a grocery store one ends up spending more than they would if they stuck to the list of things they need to purchase. There is a tendency for most people to get diverted by the various products on diplay which leads to shopping more than needed. One could argue that the same could apply to when one is shopping online but I think it is easier to stick to a list when online shopping. The other benefit of online shopping is that the products purchased are delivered to one's doorstep which can be an additional benefit for the elderly or for those who are unwell.
I do believe that physically shopping at the market or at a grocery store does have it's advantages in giving a person a more holistic shopping experience, where they can properly see, touch and assess the products before purchasing them. But given the fact that most people are constantly on the run, I believe the advantages of online shopping far outweigh the disadvantages.
