the collapse of civilization on Easter Island

the collapse of civilization on Easter Island g859D
There have been a number of theories about the collapse of civilization on Easter Island. The reading passage explains three possible events which can be responsible for declining: agricultural effects, existence of rats, and war. However, the lecturer casts doubt on each of them. The passase claims that the people on the island cut palm trees vigorously in order to utilize them or to grow other plants; hence, they might have faced some critical dilemma. The teacher, however, thinks they planted other trees and created another kind of the grass land. Therefore, there should not be an imperative problem because of palm trees. Could rat be responsible for preventing new plants or seed to grow? It seems the existence of the rats was not a critical problem for natives. According to the evidence, rats were a partition for their food. So, scientists do not expect rats to be dangerous for the civilization. Although it is possible that a war happened on the island, the thorough scientific research has shown a contradiction. It has been anticipated that Spanish people were responsible for the war. More studies are showing the population on the island had declined before Spanish sailors came. Therefore, it seems that the reason behind the collapse is still a mystery to be solved.
