The author states that genetically modified trees have many benefits comparing with natural plants. jR1o1
The author states that genetically modified trees have many benefits comparing with natural plants. On the other hand, the professor argues that these plants have many serious problems. First, the reading explains that genetically modified trees are stronger than the natural ones because they resist many conditions like extreme weather or some pests. In contrast, the speaker tells us that these plants are similar to each other and if there are some conditions like challenging weather or some harmful kinds of insects, which affect on genetically modified plants so they will all die. On the other hand, natural plants are weaker but they are different. Thus when they expose to some severe conditions, at least one of the species will survive. Second, the writer states that genetically modified plants are economically efficient. On the contrary, the professor says that planting these plants actually coats farmers more than planting natural plants because when farmers collect seeds they cannot plant them without pay every time to the company that modified these plants. Thus, farmers would be charged extra for planting genetically modified plants. Third, the reading poses that genetically modified trees grow faster than the natural ones; as a result they can compensate the excessive cutting of natural trees. However, the speaker refutes that by arguing that these plants grow very quickly so they compete with natural trees on sunlight, water, and other minerals in the soil. By doing this, they may replace natural plants and affect negatively on the wild habitats.
