Statement of Purpose
I, RAFSAN JAMIL PAVEL, applying to London South Bank University for admission to the undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I completed my SSC(Secondary School Certificate) and HSC(Higher School Certificate) from Science background and achieved a GPA of 5. 00 in both SSC and HSC respectively in the year 2018 and 2020.
I have always had a creative ability and a fascination with how things work. The challenge of solving practical problems inherent in the field of engineering appeals directly to these traits. Looking back through my school and college days, laid the foundations required for education in me. Mathematics and Science truly enchanted me because they governed everything around me. The natural things that happen daily in our life are relatable to Science, especially Physics. Physics interprets the fundamentals of Science and my favorite so far and it’s so much related to Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Participation in inter-school competitions in quizzes, essay writing, science projects, and many individual and group competitions always demanded an innovative perspective. During those years, a gift from my mother, a remote-controlled car, and some other electronic toys fascinated me to no end. The power of steering a car from a distance was just amazing. After some days, I could find out the reason, just because of the blessing of Electronics. I could observe the television I see, I see the light, I see the mobile I speak into, the music system I listen to, are all the harvest of electronics. The basic interest led me to take up Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as my major subjects in high school. As a part of my Physics project, I had constructed logic gates and some ideas of the future world based on digital electronics and did some latches by using circuit elements. I was so astounded by the amazement of Electrical and Electronic things. Moreover, I always enjoyed long hours in my college. It allowed me to concentrate theory on the practical phenomenon. This in turn gave me a better understanding of the subjects. I always enjoyed my lab, my practical work happened in the lab and the way all things work scientifically. I took part in many science fairs and projects and did well on those events. I am particularly interested in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) because it is such a rapidly evolving discipline. The potential to integrate new technologies into real-life applications and the opportunity to develop practical skills in this sphere is exciting. In my leisure time, I read books and I play netball where good teamwork is essential. I enjoy watching talks about scientific inventions and I keep up to date with magazines that cover current and future trends in technology. I would apply my thoughts, opinions, skills and will do my best in the EEE field. I have a lot of interest in microprocessors and I have a dormant wish to work on this in the future in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I spent a week within the Electronics Department during my college days and was shown the diversity of the work they undertake. What most enthused me was the freedom the engineers have to use their creativity to solve problems. I observed designing my experiments and using their design skills to build circuits to achieve this.
I desire that I apply to your esteemed university with distinguished faculty and alumni. London South Bank University’s research interests match mine. I hope that the faculty will expose me to the frontiers of the latest technologies and widen my mental horizons. London South Bank University is one of the best and unique in the world and this university is a confluence of people from many cultures, nationalities, and ideologies. Moreover, I choose the UK for higher education because it has an impressive international reputation, and studying in the UK develops excellent language skills. The English language is one of the most crucial importance nowadays. The cultural diversity of life in British higher education is unrivaled which made me interested in studying in the UK. I am sure that my exposure to these kinds of diverse influences would aid in the overall development of my personality and help me broaden my concept from the narrower confines of nationalism and internationalism. Also with some of the best brains around, it would be inspiring me to bring the best out of myself. I believe it is important that an engineer has a wider understanding of the social, political, and economic issues to better appreciate the context in which engineering impacts the community it serves. EEE impacts almost every aspect of our lives today and will only grow in importance. I want to be part of our technological future and make a positive contribution to future developments.
