Figure 15 presents the results of the survey conducted among 64 teenage learners of English at the private educational center Art-Service. According to the data, the vast majority of students experience difficulties in productive skills. 87% of the surveyed reported problems with speaking, and eight in every ten students ranked written and oral production in the target language among the most challenging activities.
The questionnaire has revealed that the most frequent hurdles to speaking and writing in English were the lack of vocabulary and poor grammar. When queried about the reasons behind feeling unconfident about their skills, the participants responded that they could not find the appropriate lexical means to convey their messages. The students also have reported blunders in the grammar usage to have caused misunderstandings.
Similarly, a significant proportion of the respondents faced challenges while completing reading and listening assignments. 79% of the learners admitted to failing to accurately grasp the meaning of audio and written texts resulting from gaps in the knowledge of grammatical patterns and vocabulary.
The survey proves that limited grammar and lexical range in the target group produce a negative impact on receptive and productive skills.
