The reading claims that the online graduate degrees are not on par with the traditional on campus courses. The author does not however, feel the same way. The lecturer disputes with the three reasons provided in the reading in support to its claim. His position is that the online graduate course is comparable to traditional courses and does not have short comings. According to the reading, the online degree students do not have the oppurtunity to communicate wth the professors unlike on campus degree. The article mentions that since professors have to be available in the regular office hours on campus students can easily have access to interactting with the teacher. However, this argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that even though students and teacher do not encounter physically, they have various mediums through which they can communicate, namely, emails, chatts, telephone conferenced. Furthermore he also adds that it solely depends on the student and his eagerness on how much he interacts with the professor. Seocondly, the author suggests that the courses in online programs are easier and can be completed in short time. Additionally, it also states that senior faculty members do not prefer to teach online due to the difference in the quality of the content taught. The lecturer discredits this notion by stating that the online classes are actually harder. He shares feedbacks from his students as an evidence. To maintain the standard of the online course with the traditional and provide same number of credits the content must also be plentiful and equally arduous. His students shared that it was actually difficult to attend online classes because they had to dedicate their time and maintain their self control and discipline.
