International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians Presentation The IYFR www. iyfr. net gathers Rotarians and Rotaractors (ownership of a boat is not required), who combine the ideals of Rotary with a passion for the sea, with the primary purpose of promoting social and cultural events for the development of solidarity and service projects, to support Rotary service projects and opportunities on and off the water. Mariners is the name given to members of the IYFR. Rotary is mainly based on friendship and harmony, the slogan "making friend by sharing interest" demonstrates how Fellowships represent the true essence of Rotary and the principle on which it is based and draws its true strength since they promote before all relationships among Rotarians. In 1947 John Barrett, a Rotarian of the Brixton Club, a District of London, decided to bring together a group of members who are passionate about the sea, and to form a sort of Yachting Club. This is how the International Yachting Felloship of Rotarians with the goal of developing knowledge among those who combine acceptance of Rotary's principles with a love of the sea. The IYFR. had a great success, spreading quickly all over the world by setting up many Fleets, each reproducing in its own small way a classic English Yachting Club, giving life to regattas, cruises and events, of every guy. Rotary accepted and codified the idea of ​​a Fellowship, which is a group of Rotarians with a common passion. Today there are about sixty fellowships in the world, that encompass a wide range of activities, sports, hobbies and interests in the professional field. The IYFR in addition to being the oldest, still represents the most widespread and organized in the world with the membership of about 3, 700 rotarians, in 44 countries, with 126 Fleets, that we can compare to individual Ratary Club. There are many projects developed by the IYFR all over the world, any Fleet is free to materialize their commitment in the forms they deem most appropriate. Fellowships are a concentrate of Rotary, they have the same characteristics, but with a more streamlined structure, and a greater affinity between the members. These are the reasons that make this network stronger and more effective in its Activities both inside and outside Rotary. All mariners depend on an International Bridge, made up of a Commodore, a Vice Commodore and a Rear Commodore. Immediately below are the Commodores of Area 1 (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Area 2 (the Americas) and Area 3 (Asia, Australian, South and Western Pacific), followed by the Regional Commodore, which have the jurisdiction of the individual Regions, normally coinciding with States or other geographical units. Finally, we arrive at the Fleets with their Commodore, in office for two years, in an automatic rotation with the Vice and the Rear, like the International Bridge. Italy Region Currently, Italy with its 9 Fleets, approximately 500 members and numerous service projects represents the most active and numerous "Region" on the Planet. TENDER TO NAVE ITALIA, represents one of the most shared project in recent years by all the Italian fleets. Nave Italia, the largest sailing brig in the world, owned by a Foundation established by the Italian Yacht Club, and supported by the Italian Navy, with the aim of making a contribution in favor of the weakest people in society: children, adolescents, physically, mentally and sensory handicapped, sick and elderly. Promoting the sea and navigation as educational, training and therapy experiences. the IYFR, contributing to the modernization of the brig allowed Rotary International to be included in the four Main Sponsors of the Foundation, along with Rolex. YOUNG PEOPLE G8, a project developed alongside the famous international meeting promoted by all the most industrialized states in the world, which allowed us to put together on board NAVE ITALIA, a crew made up of a boy for each nationality of which some with disabilities, to draw up a "propositional" document in favor of the latter to be delivered to the great of the earth, at the end of navigation. Sport & solidarity are the elements common to all our activities, there are many regattas, ROTARY / IYFR CUP, which take place every year in Italian waters, involving numerous Rotarians and supporting extraordinary projects. Some of these have achieved such notoriety, such as the MONACO - PORTOFINO, or the MILLE VELE against the POLIO PLUS. There are also numerous concrete participations to events that were already underway and famous all over the world, like the IYFR TROPHY in the most attended regatta in the world, the “BARCOLANA”. A real sea festival in Trieste, an event, which now represents a mix of popular festival and great sailing event with over 2000 boats, and in which both the America's Cup champions and the Sunday sailor participate. The IYFR is committed to supporting the WORLD FOOD PROGRAM, in fact there are about ten of our participations in the BRINDISI - CORFU 'international regatta, collecting funds in each of them to be donated to WFP. With the Italian Naval League at the PALERMO – MONTECARLO and SYRACUSE – MALTA, other international regattas, where included in the crew same disabled on board. With MEDICI SENZA FRONTIERE and ACTION AID in the ORC offshore sailing world championship to promote the project: "A SEA OF RIGHTS AND SOLIDARITY". Involved hundreds of sailboats and crews from all over the world, and whose World Title, with so much pride, was won by one of our mariner from Ancona. The IYFR flag waved aboard NAVE PALINURO having participated in the GARIBALDI TALL SHIPS REGATTA 2010, also organizing a series of side activities to the regatta with the most beautiful sailing ships of marine schools around the world, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the the unification of Italy with the historic journey of Garibaldi and the Thousand. Four days of fashion shows, collateral activities, animating the cities of Genoa and Trapani, before and after the regatta. A JACKET FOR LIFE, a project that has allowed us to collect thousands of life jackets in good condition, in Italy now unusable because they no longer comply with our regulations, and donate them to the fishing communities of some African countries, where even today they drown because they cannot swim. Together with the ITALIAN SAIL SUPPORTIVE UNION, which brings together about twenty Associations throughout the national territory with the aim of pursuing the improvement of the quality of life of people in difficulty, through education programs to welcome diversity and integration through navigation, the sea, knowledge and respect for the environment, the rules of solidarity and help that characterize, realizing through these elements real educational, training, therapeutic and social interventions.
