Both the listening and the reading talk about the reliability of the memoir of Chevalier de Seingalt. The lecturer claims and gives proofs about how reliable are the written memory of this chevalier. On the other hand, the Author of the article expresses the opinion of critics that believe that the chevalier distorted many memories. The Author claims the fact that the chevalier lied about his wealth status while living in Switzerland. That is because critics find out that he borrowed money since he was poor for gambling. The lecturer opposes the critics by affirming that he was asking for money not because he was having financial problems but since he had so much wealth that was not fast to replace with money for gambling. Another reason the Author gives about the not reliability of the memory, is the records that the chevalier has collected with Voltaire. Critics, in fact, suppose that it is impossible to remember an entire conversation that happened years before.
