In this present time, the awareness of environmental problems among mass individuals have proliferated significantly. Their spontaneous and active contribution have started filling up the gaps towards this cause. I strongly disagree with this statement as government and large companies only contribute towards reforming and imposing certain laws and is just a part of this process whereas the individuals are the grassroots level change makers.
In reality, government and large companies play lead role in structuring laws around improving the environmental issues and pouring funds to facilitate the infrastructure around it. However, it is impossible to monitor and measure the actual output from this. But, at a smaller scale individuals are making the major difference by treating the cause from a grass-root level, getting the job done at the initial stage. For example, Indian Government has imposed the “Swach Bharat Abhiyaan” movement to improve the environment, but the consistency failed miserably whereas individuals have made life easier for the government by only segregation of dry and wet waste at their home level which sums to some major contributions. Hence, I strongly agree that individuals are contributing towards flourishing the environment.
In addition environmental issues being a hot topic, the army of individuals have expanded exponentially towards this cause. Many groups, non-profit organisations and individuals are now stepping up proactively without even waiting for the government and the companies to act. For example, there is non-profit organisation in UK known as “Surfers Against Sewage” which takes action to protect oceans, beaches, wildlife and forests. Their actions caused a reduction in 17% of pollution across all beaches and it’s surrounding areas of UK. But they always depends on individual charity contributors whereas they fail to receive any support from the government and other large conglomerates creating a bottle neck to contribute more. Thus, I agree that the power of individuals maximise and makes the major difference in a wholistic improvement of the environment.
To conclude, portable efforts made by individuals are not only contributing towards the improvement of the environment but also encouraging other individuals to join the force. Having said that I strongly agree that individual efforts are more weighty and impact full with respect to what government and other large companies does.
