I agree that entertainment based technology such as TVs and phones may cause people to read fewer books than before. This can happen because the technology can make us have lower attention spans, which means we can easily get bored. If we have a low attention span, we think that reading books is pointless and we go on entertaining ourselves by using the techology. Why bother reading a book when we can just search a video of it or browse it on the internet. Before, people read books much more often because it's the only source of entertainment (like novels, storybooks, etc) and it's cheap. Televisions are expensive back then, so people opted to read books. Nowadays, televisions and phones are much more accessible to most people, so they tend to use those to entertain themselves rather than reading their books.
