As I work full time, it was difficult for me to find time to practise. So, I took advantage of my Eid vacation. My recommendation is preparing for at least a month, if you have solid foundation in English. You'll get access to a website called Road to IELTS after registration, make the best use of it. It is very good get a general understanding of the test and adapt yourself to the computer format. I used the Cambridge books for my preparation, the quality of the questions were excellent. As I didn't have a lot of time, I used only the 12-14th book.
One of the beauties of the computer delivered test is that all of the test components happen in the same day. The result was available on the 5th day after taking the test. This was very handy for me as it was my weekend. After 2 weeks, I got the test taker's copy from British Council by showing the original passport. You can send results electronically to as many places you want, if they have British Council subscription
